Saint-Tropez is certainly the most famous sea resort in Europe, well known for gathering the rich and famous of this world…
But the inner beauty of Saint-Tropez is its charm, the authenticity of a very old harbour and the amazing beauty of its landscape, its vineyards, forests of pine trees, all of it greatly preserved thanks to Ramatuelle and St Tropez imposing rigorous architectural guidelines.
Very few places in Europe will offer you such peaceful amazing greenery and stunning villas with magnificent gardens; all of this overlooking beautiful white sand beaches and turquoise water..
But Saint-Tropez also offers the widest range of possibilities : of course, if you want to enjoy and party, you will find exceptional restaurants, bars or nightclubs. And when you prefer to relax and enjoy more quietly, this is also a fabulous place to spend some quality time with your family or friends.
You will find by yourself that very few places will provide you with such broad scope of opportunities.
Even if the name Saint-Tropez originally goes way back, and comes from Torpes, a roman officer during Nero’s reign, rebuilding of the village following several invasions happened in the fifteenth century. Its Citadel was precious during the rebellion against Louis XIVth in 1652, and Saint-Tropez was focused on ship building and fishing during the XIXth century.
Around the turn of the century, artists such as Guy de Maupassant or Paul Signac discovered the beauty of this fishermen’s village, followed by Matisse, Bonnard or Marquet. The Saint-Tropez of painters greatly inspired the “pointillisme” and “fauvisme” largely commented by Colette.
Saint-Tropez became one of the most famous villages in the world following the “new wave” that started in the 1950s, and largely thanks to Brigitte Bardot and all the happy few who chose to come here to enjoy this unique and unbelievable place..
